ARE YOU STRESSED WITH EXAMS?

Just before our Easter Holiday we talked about how to cope with stress before exams. We gathered the best tips to face oral exam situations and wrote them all up on the board.

As you are all doing exams next Thursday and Friday here is the advice we discussed with the listening activity we did in class. Your suggestions were not far from the expert´s opinion. Even though you focused more on the previous feelings before the exam, I think we got quite a few interesting pieces of advice.

Hope they help you get rid of anxiety and score the best results ever!!

PRONOUNCING "U"

So far you have all learned that English is not a phonetic language, which means most letters - mainly vowels - have more than just one pronunciation. Unfortunately, the sounds in English do not correspond to one letter of the alphabet and that's the reason why we have just discovered the letter U can be pronounced in many different ways, like we practised in class.

With the video above you can study the different pronunciations of the letter U and try the words again!

THE PARTS OF THE BODY

Learning new vocabulary can be tough when just trying to do it by heart. However, playing games and enjoying the learning can be motivating enough to get to know all the target words.

This is what we did in class last Thursday. Enjoying and learning can go together!! See the video and try to remember the different parts of the body we put labels on.

OUR LANGUAGE ASSISTANT

My INTENSIVE INTERMEDIATE 2 COURSE has just started and we have been appointed a new foreign language assistant for the new semester.

His name is Jarrett McDowell. He is from North Carolina in USA and he will presumably be involved with conversation classes. He lives in Pontevedra and has been working at our school community for three years now. We´ll meet Jarrett on Tuesday 6 February and I hope you are all looking forward to giving him a new welcome!!

Jarrett will be teaching my intensive intermediate students every Tuesday at 11.00. I am afraid we won't meet him often but you will see him in the school corridors and he will be more than glad to talk to you!!

WRITING TIPS: THE BIG MOVE SAMPLE ANSWERS

My CALC students have been doing a writing task in class by answering a problem page from a magazine. You can have a look at the results below and try to correct the mistakes we have marked in red. Can you guess what the correct way of saying those expressions is? Try to check not only grammar, but also punctuation. Share your versions in the comments section below!!

we had a great time at the library today, didn't we? Having an informal chat, talking about books and films and tasting a nice cup of hot coffee is one of the best ways to say good-bye to our term!!

As classes this year are coming to an end, I just wanted to give you a nice Christmas present... a class you will always remember. Hope I got it!!
